Our EYFS Curriculum
The curriculum is carefully sequenced to broaden children’s knowledge, vocabulary and
experiences while preparing them for Year 1.
Autumn 1 – Who Am I?
Children explore identity, families, feelings, senses, school and the local community. Key
question: What makes me special?
Autumn 2 – How Do People Celebrate and Belong?
Children learn about Diwali, Bonfire Night and Christmas, exploring traditions, belonging
and respect for others.
Spring 1 – What Makes Our World Amazing?
A study of Antarctica introduces continents, animals, explorers, weather and contrasting
environments.
Spring 2 – How Is Life Different Around the World?
Children learn about Africa and compare communities, environments and daily life with
Norfolk.
Summer 1 – How Does Nature Change?
Learning focuses on plants, lifecycles, habitats, minibeasts and seasonal change through
first-hand experiences.
Summer 2 – How Has Life Changed Over Time?
Children compare the past and present through toys, homes, schools, transport and family
experiences.
Learning Across the Year
- Communication and Language – developing speaking, listening and vocabulary.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building confidence, resilience and
relationships. - Physical Development – fine and gross motor skills, handwriting and movement.
- Literacy – Little Wandle phonics and The Write Stuff writing approach.
- Mathematics – White Rose Maths, developing number sense and problem solving.
- Understanding the World – communities, celebrations, geography, history and science.
- Expressive Arts and Design – art, music, role play and creativity.
By the End of Reception
Children are confident learners who understand themselves, their community, the natural
world and how life changes over time. They are equipped with secure foundations in
language, early reading, writing, mathematics and personal development, preparing them
well for Year 1.
